Description

Huge double brick 1923 Masonic Temple on acre village block for sale. Consists of 2 very large connected halls (see plans) and adjoining kitchen bedroom and bathroom. Double car carport and huge covered outdoor area lead to the landscaped garden. We purchased the Temple 8 years ago when the Gunning Masonic Lodge was formally closed and the Temple deconsecrated. However against tradition both the formal corner stone and front temple stone remain intact as does the ritual tessellated flooring in the main hall adding to the historic value of the building. Since then we have turned the toilet block into the bathroom had wiring and plumbing replaced installed an Italian gas stove slow combustion heating laundry solar hot water huge outdoor entertainment area and double carport. All building work has been Council approved. The 2 halls have not been altered structurally although plans have been drawn up for a mezzanine for the larger hall to make this a 4 bedroom residence. The garden is established and water-wise with meandering pathways and shaded seating areas. The raised veggie beds can provide fresh produce all year round and the apple cherry fig olive and apricot trees are established and productive. There is also a large rain water tank for the garden and drinking water although the block enjoys full village infrastructure and water restrictions are rare in the area. The Temple is positioned in the best street in the village opposite the beautiful bluestone Anglican Church and its rectory. Although Gunning is a small community of 500 people it is within commuting distance to Canberra (a 45 minute drive) Goulburn (30 mins) Yass (25 mins) and 2 hours to Sydney. Just off the Hume Highway Gunning boasts a pub post office motel pre school primary school library railway station childcare centre council offices 3 cafes 2 restaurants art gallery bookshop general store gift shop 2 service stations rural supply centre 3 active churches 2 B&Bs and shire facilities such as community health centre and community halls. There are many active community groups catering to a range of interests such as art and music quilting woodworking and history and of course its own Bushfire Brigade and Ses. This is a beautiful and unique home spacious and comfortable as is but still full of opportunity for those who dream of finding and converting a church or hall into that dream home We are moving on reluctantly.
