At MontrealHomeMovies.com we are in the business of saving your precious memories. Using only the latest professional digital broadcast cameras and the best in transferring techniques we are saving peoples old 8mm, Super 8, 16mm, and even VHS tapes, BetaMax and 8mm Tape.

Old Movie Film Conversions
How better to remember your memories forever than to convert all your 8mm, 16mm and Super 8 films on to 1 or a set of VHS tapes or DVD's?

Remember the family projector??? You know, the one that makes the stuttering sound and makes you throw your memories back to 'the Good ol' Days'? We remember it too, and while we remember it fondly, we also remember a few others things.
• Broken tapes
• Poor or No Sound
• Bulbs burning out
• Faded image quality
• Irreplaceable projector parts

Imagine, sitting down in your living room or den and spending some fun times with everyone simply by slipping in a DVD and pressing PLAY! Or if you are the family archivist we can convert your 16mm film to a digital files. If you use PC then we can create .avi files. If you use Mac we can provide .dv files. Whatever your need, we can help you digitize your 16mm film to your personal hard drive.

By far the highest quality transfers we work on are 16mm film to DVD. The basic fact is that as a film medium 16mm is extremely good. The size of each frame is 2.5 times larger than 8mm. Most 16mm film sold was of a quality that allowed more flexibilty in processing. So if your father or grand father didnt exactly expose and meter the film correctly, Kodak more often and than not was able to push or pull the film into a viewable format.

We will take that one step further. Each reel is recorded directly into the computer at the film gate. Using the latest professional broadcast video cameras we record every frame. In Premiere Pro CS3 one of our professional editors will manually go through your footage frame by frame where they would remove any leaders, splices, black spots, we then further correct issues such as sharpness, clarity, colour correction and saturation. Each reel is identified for easy editing in the future.

16mm:

If you plan to edit your 16mm film we can transfer the uncompressed video directly to your hard drive. This video would be either .avi if you use PC or .dv if you use a Mac. We do not suggest any compression at all unless you have issues with space or plan to put the footage directly onto the web.

That's right! We can also export your video to DVD, MiniDV, Digital8, DVCAM or any number of mpeg compression ratios. Contact Aaron Mortson at our Toronto office for more details on web conversions - 514-868-2120.

For those people who just want the final fantastic product we can handle the entire production. Starting from converting your 16mm film into the computer to exporting to a DVD with chapers and even a custom authored DVD.

Here is how it works:
Assuming you have several reels we will number the reels with you. Usually oldest to newest. We will upload each reel and identify them on the timeline by titles we call reel markers. When you review your 16mm to DVD it will begin with a countdown then a title page that says "Reel 1" with each subsequent reel marked accordingly. If you can number the reels and send an email with the titles numbered accordingly, we will add those titles to your film for no charge.

If you request an Authored DVD (with a custom menu), a link to play the entire video, and separate links to each reel will be created. This way from the intro menu you can skip to any reel on the DVD.

Lastly, we offer a number of upgrade finishes to your family DVD that includes; custom labels, DVD cases with a custom design, leather DVD cases, and watershield technology (titles and images printed directly on the DVD).
